As the 2023 soccer season came to an end, Head Coach Rob Lugge and the team celebrated a successful season.
The hard work and dedication of the team shines through with their 15 wins this season, including a 1-0 victory against Edwardsville during the Class 3A Edwardsville Regional Championships finals and a 2-0 victory against Moline during the Class 3A Normal Community West Sectional finals. Though the Kahoks did not make it to the state finals this year, losing 1-2 to Naperville North during the IHSA 3A Super Sectional, there are no doubts about the strength of the team and the work they’ve put in this season.
Many players were recognized for this season’s accomplishments, including recognitions from the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association awarded to senior Adam Reiniger for All-State and All-Sectional All-Academic Selection, seniors Trey Peterson and Dane Compton for All-Sectional Selections, and senior Brayden Boerm for All-Sectional Sportsmanship Selection. Members of the team also received SWC All Conference recognitions, which included Adam Reiniger, Dane Compton, senior Landon Mahat, and Trey Peterson on the first team, senior Sam Garofalo, junior Juan Carlos Doria, and sophomore Braden Henson on the second team, and finally, honorable mentions for Brayden Boerm, junior Joshua Morales, and junior Chris Munoz. This season’s statistics show that Adam Reiniger had the most goals this season, 21, scoring a total of 47 points. What a way to end your senior season!
Coach Lugge had similar feelings about this season. “This year was another very successful season for the soccer program winning 4th straight Southwestern Conference Championship as well as earning Regional and Sectional Championships,” said Lugge. “While the start to our season was not ideal, the players’ commitment to each other and the team allowed us to win 11 out of our last 12 games. The expectations of playing in the Kahoks Soccer Program are very high and this group was able to meet those expectations daily. I would like to thank the seniors for their dedication to the program and their willingness to work with the younger players and teach them what it means to be a member of the Kahok Soccer Program.”
When asked about his thoughts on the growth of the team, Brayden Boerm replied, “The underclassmen helped us a ton this year. Sophomores like Ty and TJ both improved a lot, as well as juniors Chris, Joey, and Carlos making a big difference. The team has talent returning next year and can be just as good again.”
Overall, it comes to no surprise how proud the community is of its Kahoks and their accomplishments for the 2023-2024 season. We are all excited to see what comes next, and how the team adapts to new members for the 2024-2025 season!
