In first through eighth grade, lockers were a great way to have a safe place for your belongings but also to let off the weight that hurts all of our backs daily. Walking around with a backpack on causes a lot of strain on the back. A quick google search can tell you that wearing a heavy backpack for extensive periods can often result in muscle and back pain, fatigue, poor posture, and neck/shoulder pains.
Personally, I’m tired of walking around with a bag full of work and books while not being able to put it somewhere for the day. A lot of students here at CHS say that they would be able to wear coats, hats, and accessories’ more if they had a place to put it safely when the classrooms get hot. On days that someone brings more than their backpack, a locker would be efficient for that as well. Any extra baggage like gym clothes, shoes, makeup bags, or club items are all things that can be stored in the lockers.
As they say, the early bird gets the worm, on a first come-first serve basis, students can pick a locker. They should provide their own lock and just like the parking spots, if they get fifteen tardies they lose the locker. Students should be required to keep them clean at all times which makes this a big responsibility. Remember, the things given to us at CHS are privileges not rights. I believe that next school year, CHS should offer lockers to students on registration.
