The staff at CHS has introduced a new way to reward students’ behavior. Teachers who see students convey good practices reward them with a Kahok Kudo. Kudos are small purple tokens with the Kahok mascot present on the front. On Fridays, students can access the “Kudo Korner,” where they can trade their Kudos for prizes. Prizes include various drink and snack options, gift cards, and even Kahok gear.
“The hope by creating them is to reduce the number of discipline referrals that we issue to students, and therefore that’ll allow students to be in the classroom more than being somewhere less desirable,” said Social Studies Teacher Heather Johnson.
Students can receive Kudos by showcasing the Kahok Way, being safe, respectful, and responsible. “The idea was a PBIS initiative—Collinsville Unit 10 wanted a unified behavior program from pre-k through 12th grade,” said Assistant Principal Charlotte Fisher. Many teachers and principals from all grades created “#thekahokway.”
Students have well received this new program. “Students shopping at the Kudo Korner have been kind and polite and showcased The Kahok Way,” said Fisher. “Kahoks are known for being respectful and responsible, and this has given us a chance to reward that behavior. Students are excited to be at CHS, and we love that!“
Kudos will stick around throughout the rest of the school year and hopefully, years to come, but that’s not the only initiative Kahoks can receive. The district has put together a long list of rewards for students following the Kahok Way. Some of which include, Fall Festival, (Games, snacks, and more), Blizzard Bash, (Movie and snacks), Prom Package, (Ticket for winner and guess, professional digital photos), Parking Pass, (Premier parking, spaces 1-5), and Graduation Package, (Cap, gown, and tassel, reserved parking for ceremony, yearbook). The criteria apply to all events, Zero unexcused absences, zero discipline referrals, less than 10 tardies, and C or better in all classes.
Kahoks are being noticed for showing the Kahok Way and accumulating incentives to reward their pride!
