With the start of the new semester, the Kahoki wishes to highlight the lives and stories of our soon-to-be-graduated seniors. We want to take the time to learn about what they like, and what is in store for them after their time at Collinsville High School. Senior Features will release every other Friday, interspliced between our entertainment column installments. For our first feature, we are going to hear about the senior students in Media Publications that focus primarily on the Newspaper.
Corey Benson
Corey Benson has been a devoted member of the Collinsville High School Winter Guard since his sophomore year, and this is a passion he cares for deeply. When it comes to the newspaper, Corey has enjoyed preparing upcoming videos for the Kahoki website. After high school he plans to go to school to become an EMT and help people in need. Corey’s favorite music artist is Yung Kai, and his favorite memories from his time at CHS are from all of the spirit weeks over the years.
Kaylee Cooper
Kaylee Cooper is in charge of social media here at the Kahoki. This is her favorite part of working on the newspaper, as she loves getting to design and create posts for the student body to enjoy. She has an immense passion for film, and plans to pursue this as a career after graduation. Her dream school is University of Southern California, but she hopes to go to any film school in California to get her Film and Television Production BFA. Outside of filmmaking, she also has a love for dance and her friends. Kaylee’s favorite music artist changes constantly, but right now it is Gracie Abrams, and her favorite high school memory is dancing to “Murder on the Dancefloor” as the final song of junior prom.
Zachary Fuhlbrick
Zachary Fuhlbrick is one of the key pillars of our newspaper, as he is in charge of designing and running the very website you are on right now. This is Zakk’s favorite part about working on the newspaper, and he has done an incredible job transforming our website and making it more user friendly. After high school, Zakk plans on taking a gap year, getting a job, and just seeing where life takes him. He claims that, “I go by many names, but you’ll never know my real one.” Zakk’s favorite music artist is Green Day, and his favorite memories at CHS are the times he got to hang out with his friends at lunch sophomore year.
Naomi Hurst
Naomi Hurst is editor-in-chief for the Kahoki, and her favorite part is getting the opportunity to voice her opinion and get information to the student body, saying that “It makes me feel kind of important, even if a ton of people don’t read the paper.” While she is afraid of graduation and what the future holds, her next step will be attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and getting a BFA in photography. Her dream is to become a WWE photographer, but she is ready to go wherever life takes her. Her favorite music artist is My Chemical Romance and her favorite memory from high school was the time one of her fellow peers threw up on one of her best friends in the hallway.
Zachary Roeck
Zachary Roeck has been a member of the Collinsville High School Drama Club throughout all four years of his time here. Self-described as “6 ‘4, pure muscle, and really good friends with most celebrities,” his favorite part about the Kahoki is getting the chance to write funny articles and have creative freedom. Zach’s post-high school goal is to find a job that makes him truly happy. His favorite music artist is The Rat Pack, and his favorite CHS memory was when everyone got to go home early because of the power outage sophomore year.
Zavannah Stephan
Zavannah Stephan is one of our top writers for the Kahoki, and is always popping out new articles. Her favorite part about working on the newspaper is learning leadership skills and getting to use her creativity. She says that “The teachers here are the only reason I made it this far,” and when her time is done at CHS, she plans to go to UMSL and become a Child Life Specialist at Children’s Hospital. Zavannah’s favorite music artist is Billy Joel and her favorite memories come from participating in spirit weeks throughout the years.
We are incredibly proud of all of our seniors and everything they have accomplished during their time at CHS. We cannot wait to see what life has in store for them, and we cannot wait to find out more about other seniors at Collinsville High School.
